Each child must be accompanied by an adult in the water.

Classes provide a step-by-step progression of swimming and water safety skills that develop motor perception and coordination with or without the aid of a
flotation device. Instructors use songs and games to help children develop their skills.
PIKE
3 - 5 years

In Class: Will learn to blow
bubbles, put face

PIKE II
3-5 years
Skills Required: No fear of the water, nor a fear of being in a class, paddle on front, back and side 5 yds. with floatation device.
In Class: Will learn to float on front & back, swim on front, back and side 5ft. without a floatation device.
EEL
3 - 5 years
Skills
Required: Paddle without a floatation device 5ft on front, back & side, float on front and back
In Class: Will learn to jump in & return to the side without assistance, retrieve an object from the bottom of the pool.
RAY
3 - 5 years
Skills
Required: Swim 15yd each front, back and side without a floatation device.
In Class: Will learn elementary
backstroke & breaststroke, treading
water, front & back somersaults.
STARFISH
3 - 5 years
Skills
Required: Swim 20ft each of front crawl, back crawl, sidestroke, breaststroke & elementary backstroke.
In Class: Will learn survival
float, kneeling and
sitting dives, to coordinate
front crawl
with rotary breathing.

This is a progressive program with the following components: Personal Safety, Personal Growth, Stroke Development, Water Sports and Games, and Rescue. Youth
are challenged physically and mentally in a safe and fun environment.
POLLIWOG
6 - 12 years
Skills: No Skills Required
In Class: Will be introduced
to the front & back crawl, front and back floats, putting face in the water, reaching assists.
GUPPY
6 - 12 years
Skills
Required: Paddle 20 feet on each front, back & side, blow bubbles, put face in water, float on front & back
In Class: Will learn rhythmic breathing front crawl, tread water, jump into deep end, kneeling dive, sidestroke, breaststroke.
MINNOW
6 - 12 years
Skills
Required: Swim 40 ft. of each front crawl, back crawl, sidestroke, breaststroke & elementary backstroke.
In Class: Will learn rotary breathing for front crawl, standing dives, swim with clothes on, tread water for 1 minute, take own heart rate.
FISH
6 - 12 years
Skills Required: Swim 25 yd each front crawl, back crawl, sidestroke breastroke & elementary backstroke in good form, dive in water.
In Class: Will learn open turns, use of masks & fins, introduction to butterfly, practice rescue breathing
FLYING FISH
6 - 12 years
Skills Required: Swim 50 yds of
front crawl, back
crawl, and sidestroke breaststroke
and elementary backstroke
In Class: Will learn bilateral
breathing, inverted
scissor kick on sidestroke,
introduction to flip turns for front & back crawl.
SHARK
6 - 12 years
Skills Required: Swim 100 yd of each front crawl, back crawl, sidestroke breaststroke and elementary backstroke with open turns, butterfly 25 yds.
In Class: Will learn first aid
techniques, rescue breathing, lifesaving
strokes and
surface dives.

Swim Lesson Policies
* Parents of preschoolers accompany children to and from lessons.
* Parents may view lessons from bleacher area.
* Remove shoes before entering shower and pool areas.
* Sorry, missed lessons cannot be made up.
* Use bathrooms before class, shower, and remove band-aids
before class.
* Be on time, but no more than five minutes early.
* “Swim diapers” should be used by children not potty trained.
* Swim masks that cover the nose may not be used.
* Please refrain from bringing your own flotation devices.
* Swim lessons may be rescheduled by the YMCA depending on
enrollment levels.
